Yacob Mohamed Abdalla, a prominent researcher at the Puntland Development and Research Center (PDRC), was recently interviewed by The Somali Progressive Initiative (SPI).

Yacob provided a comprehensive analysis of Somalia’s multilateral political and economic transformation. This includes exploring the causes, consequences, and implications of these changes, focusing on their short-term nature.

The interview also explored complex issues of national unity in Somalia. Yacob examined the ideological framework, institutional dynamics, and operational challenges of federalism as it pertains to Somalia’s political landscape. The discussion considers the historical and contemporary factors affecting the recognition and implementation of one-country principles.

Additionally, Yacob discussed ways and means to build a mature democracy in Somalia. He also examined the institutional, social, cultural, and value preconditions for a stable democratic system. and explored key stakeholders, strategies, and approaches to promoting democratic integration.
